Rose A. Mills, 77 of Cornell, IL, died on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at 5:50 AM at Evenglow Tjardes Heath Care Center in Pontiac.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 10:30 AM at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Odell, with Father David Sabel and Father Ronald Dodd officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 18, 2013 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at the Calvert & Martin Funeral Home in Pontiac, where a rosary will be recited at 3:30 PM. Burial will be held at CampCemetery in rural Odell, IL. Memorials in Rose’s name may be left to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Rose was born on August 24, 1935 in Streator, IL a daughter of Joseph and Grace (Verdiramo) Bucalo. She married C. Keith Mills on September 5, 1959 in Streator, IL. He preceded her in death on July 23, 1996.
She is survived by her children: Stephanie (Bob) Kennedy of Pontiac, IL, Jeff (Irma) Mills of San Benito, TX, Brian (Sue) Mills of Odell, IL, Eric Mills of Pontiac, IL, Michael (Tammie) Mills of Pontiac, IL and Alicia (David) Vollmer of Cornell, IL; seventeen grandchildren: Trisha, Amy and Joe Kennedy, Ben (Amy) Mills, Kristal Acuna, Lisa (Robert) Garcia, Tyler, Brittany, Emily and Keith Mills, Kristen and Brooke Mills, Nicole, Drew and Madison Mills and Ashley and Kyle Vollmer; six great grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Robert, Ryan, Aiden, Alexis and Dylan. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister: Phyllis Gschwendtner and one brother: Sam Bucalo.
Mrs. Mills was educated at St. Mary’s Grade School in Streator and graduated from Streator High School in 1953 and St. John’s School of Nursing in Springfield, IL in 1956. She was a Registered Nurse and had worked at St. Mary’s Hospital in Streator, Evenglow Lodge in Pontiac and OSF St. James/ John W. Albrecht Medical Center in Pontiac.
Rose was a member of St. Paul’s Church in Odell and was member of the former St. JosephChurch in Cornell, where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She was a member of the Delta Tau Sorority in Streator and the Cornell Red Hat Society. For many years she was the Amity Township Clerk.
