East Peoria – J.C. "Red" Butler, 83, of East Peoria, IL passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Rosewood Care Center in East Peoria. Red was born September 9, 1929 in Beech Bluff, TN to John and Buford S. Harbert Butler. He married Gwendolyn "Gwen" Guy in August of 1959 in East Peoria.
Surviving are his two daughters; Vickie (James) Warren of East Peoria, IL, and Cathy Bankes of East Peoria, IL, son Ervin Ray of Metamora, IL, six grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, and his brother Charles Butler of Beech Bluff, TN. Red was preceded in death by his parents, wife, grandson, and two sisters.
Red worked for the State of Illinois Highway Division, Illinois and the Secretary of State's Office, driver's license division, in Pekin, IL. He later worked as the sexton of Fondulac Cemetery retiring in 1994 and then went on to work for Velde Automotive as a driver. Red was very active in the East Peoria community. He was a member of the Fondulac Democratic Club, a master mason with Hilton Lodge 1143 A.F. & A.M., and a member of the First Christian Church in Creve Coeur, IL.
Services will be held at 10 am Monday, January 21, 2013 at Remmert Funeral Home. Visitation will be Sunday from 3 – 6 pm with Masonic Rites at 6 pm at the funeral home.
