SFC Harold D Logan 79, of Galesburg, Ill. died at 7:40 am, Friday January 18, 2013 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born March 16, 1933 in La Belle, Mo., the son of J. Dee and Gema Elvetta Swearingen Logan. He married Mildred E. Belford on June 21, 1952 in Pittsfield, Ill. She survives.
Also surviving are his children, Micheal D (Peggy) of Maitland, Fla., William D (Peggy) of Knoxville, Ill., James D (LeVerne) of Phoenix City, Ala., Richard D (Sharon) of Abingdon, Ill., Anthony D (Linda) of Oak Run, Ill., Kimberly (Pete) McEllen and Jacqueline (Roger) Darst both of Galesburg; fourteen grandchildren, eleven step grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, sixteen step great grandchildren and four step great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a step-father, Vincent Stumbaugh and a sister, Hila Marie Logan.
He served in the US Army for 22 years retiring as SFC on January 31, 1973. He had been stationed at Ft. Riley, Kansas, Ft. Rucker, Ala., Ft. Benning, Ga., Ft. Eustis, Va., Korea, Vietnam and Germany.
He worked as an engineer for Burlington Northern Railroad and Amtrak for 21 years, retiring on June 30, 1994. He graduated from Pittsfield, Ill high school in 1951. He was a 32nd degree Mason, member of the Alpha Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry. He enjoyed remodeling, traveling in his RV and motorcycling trips, camping, and his computer. His recent passion was his 2013 Orange Corvette. His biggest passion was his wife, Mildred.
Funeral Mass is scheduled for 10:00 am Monday, January 21, 2013 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Monsignor Ernest Pizzamiglio will officiate. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 pm Sunday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Military Rites will be conducted at 3:45 pm Sunday at the chapel. Masonic Services will be at 7:00 pm, Sunday at the chapel. Burial will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va.
