Richard E. "Dick" Berger, 86 of Pekin passed away at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at Pekin Hospital.
Born May 1, 1926 in Pekin to Albert F. and Lucinda A. (Joesting) Berger, he married Nola Jean Brooking on June 22, 1947 in Pekin. She survives.
Also surviving are one son Mark (Pam) Berger of Pekin; one daughter, Kathleen Berger of Peoria; four grandchildren, Jordan Berger, Emily Berger, Amy (Mike) Manwaring, Keri (Chris) Cassady and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Dick had worked as a Staff Service Engineer for Caterpillar Inc. for 39 years, retiring May 1, 1987.
He was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega Social Fraternity at Purdue University and graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering from Bradley University.
Dick was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Pekin where he had been active as an usher and a member of the Brotherhood at Church. He was also a former member of the Pekin Mayor's Handicap Committee.
He was a die hard Chicago Cubs fan and loved spending time with his family at their cabin at Spring Lake. Dick was also an avid tool collector. He was a "Jack of all trades" and had built their home. He was a man who was known to be able to fix anything.
His funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 11, 2013 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. The Rev. Glenn R. A. Niemann will officiate. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. John's Lutheran Church, 711 Court St., Pekin, IL 61554.
