Mildred was born December 16, 1921 in Manito, Ill. to George and Bertha Himmel Meyer. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Glenn C. Gore, whom she wed at the Methodist Church in Manito in 1943. Mildred and Glenn have resided in Galesburg since 1948.
In addition to her husband, Glenn, she is survived by her son, Steve (Roberta) Gore of Galesburg; daughter, Suzy (John) Marek of Washington, Iowa; and grandsons, Robert and Ryan (Kasia) Gore.
Mildred graduated from Manito High School and from the Peoria Institute of Business. She worked as a business secretary and homemaker. Mildred was active in PTA, a member of the Cottage Hospital Guild and a volunteer at Cottage Hospital for many years. Mildred was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Galesburg, where she taught Sunday school for 16 years.
Mildred was a member of the Celestial City Chapter No. 333 (formerly Rebecca Chapter No. 437) for over 50 years. She was a member of the Lake Bracken Country Club and active in the Women’s Golf League and Bridge League.
An avid reader, gardener and pet lover, Mildred enjoyed working crossword puzzles. Mildred was always up for a round of cards and especially enjoyed beating her family in a game of pitch. Mildred always had a smile and never knew a stranger. She loved telephone chats with her grandsons, nieces and special friends.
Private funeral services will be Monday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. There will be no visitation. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Galesburg.
