Eldon E. Bauman

He was born Aug. 3, 1924, in Morton, to Frank and Naomi (Grimm) Bauman. He married his high school sweetheart, Doris Fort, and was blessed with 66 years of marriage.
Surviving are his wife, Doris Bauman of Morton; three children, Connie Bauman of Boston, Mass., Becky Kaiser of Bloomington and Frank (Sheila) Bauman of Kissimmee, Fla.; six grandchildren; 11 great granchildren; and four sisters, Dorothy (Jack) Krantz of Morton, Mabel Yentes of Morton, Bernice (Willis) Knapp of Eureka and Virginia Streitmatter of Princeville.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Oscar, Willis and Gilbert Bauman and one infant sister.
Devoted to God, family and country, he entered the United States Air Force in April 1943 and served 35 missions in the European Theatre. He was discharged on New Year’s Eve 1945.
To family and friends, Eldon went by the nickname “Fanny.”
Eldon worked for Grimm Oil Co. in Morton and later became a partner with Grimm TV and Appliance, retiring in 1986. After a year, he went back and worked part time for a couple of years.
A member of the Morton Apostolic Christian Church since 1957, Eldon served on various committees throughout the years. In 1988, he became a passionate and devoted caretaker of the Morton Apostolic Christian Cemetery, serving for 23 years.
Services will be held at his church at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 21, 2013, with church ministers officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton, and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be at Morton Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery.
