PEKIN ~ Charles Hugh “Skip” Smith, 81, of Pekin, passed away at 3:06 a.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at Pekin Hospital.;Born May 27, 1932 in Mackinaw to Charles Walter and Sarah Ellen (Malott) Smith, he married Norma Jean Stoneburner on October 8, 1955 in Pekin. She survives.;Also surviving are one daughter, Carolyn (Edward) Green of Pekin, one son, Jerry Stoneburner of Pekin, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.;He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.;Skip served in the United States Marine Corps and was a Korean War veteran.;He worked for Keystone Steel & Wire Company in Bartonville for 30 years, retiring in 1982 from steel mill arc shop. He then worked for 10 years at the Pekin Park District in the maintenance department.;Skip enjoyed camping and fishing with his grandson. His dog named Star was the light of his life.;No services or visitation are planned. Cremation will be accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
