80, of Galesburg, died at 7:42 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.;He was born November 2, 1932 in Wyeville, Wis. the son of Claud R. and Elsie Ella Fonger Armstrong. He married Sharon K. Hartman in 1955 in Galesburg.;He is survived by a special friend and caregiver, Evelyn Johnson of Knoxville, two sons, Jerry (and Jennifer) Armstrong of Rapid City, S.D. and Ron Armstrong of Galesburg, six grandchildren, a brother, Howard (and Joyce) Armstrong of Galesburg, and a sister, Marge (and Bob) Augerson of Galesburg. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Mark Armstrong, and a daughter, Cindy Anderson.;Ray was a gas serviceman for Illinois Power Company for 29 years, retiring December 1, 1992. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1950. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Galesburg Area Antique and Classic Car Club, and Western Illinois Early Ford V/8 Club.;Ray served in the United States Air Force.;Graveside service will be 9:30 am Monday, July 15, 2013 at the Knoxville Cemetery. Rev. Daniel DeBeer will officiate. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to the Knox County Humane Society or Guardian Angels Humane Society.
