Pekin – Bonnie Mae Hawkins, 72, of Pekin, died at 3:25 AM on Saturday July 13, 2013 at Morton Villa. She was born on July 6, 1941 in Peoria to Cecil and Dorothy “Marie” Jones Majors. She married Audry Dean Hawkins on July 1, 1957 in Oxford, Mississippi. He preceded her in death on September 2, 2001 in Pekin. Bonnie was also preceded in death by her father, two brothers;Jack and Joe Majors and one grandson, Joseph Brady Hawkins.\\nShe is survived by her mother, Marie Jones of East Peoria, her seven children;Susan (Jeff) Garwood of Mt. Sterling, IL, Martha (Steve) Mackey of Peoria, Frank (Pamela) Hawkins of Oxford, Mississippi, John (Nichole) Hawkins of East Peoria, Jim (Michelle) Hawkins of Pekin, Joe (Angela) Hawkins of Kansas City, MO and Philip Hawkins of Morton, twenty grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, three sisters;Grace (Royal) VanOrder of East Peoria, Susie (Larry) Vicary of Chillicothe, Mary (Don) Miller of Waterman, IL, and three brothers;James (Shirley) Majors of Pekin, Richard (Sharon) Majors of Morton and Jerry (Cheryl) Majors of Morton. \\nBonnie retired in 2008 from East Peoria Community High School where she was a bus driver for twelve years. Her life revolved around her family, who she considered her friends. She loved to babysit for her grandchildren and also loved gardening. Since Bonnie was 14 years old she has used her love of singing in the church as a worship leader. She was first a member of Little Church in the Valley in East Peoria for most of her life, where she also served as “pastor’s wife” from 1972-1981 while her husband Audry led the church. She later became a member of Crossroads Full Gospel Church in Pekin.\\nThere will be a memorial service at Days of Grace Fellowship in Morton on Tuesday July 16, 2013 at 11AM. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Her son, Pastor Jim Hawkins will officiate. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in East Peoria is handling arrangements. Cremation rites have been accorded.\\nMemorial contributions may be made to the Bonnie Mae Hawkins Memorial Fund for her son Philip.
