Henry - Our beloved mother &grandmother Patricia Jean “Pat” Hess, 80, of Henry, formerly of Peoria passed away on Tuesday September 10, 2013 at 2:15 AM in her hometown of Henry after a 4-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease.\\n\\nPat was born in La Prairie Township, IL, to Hubert &Susan Buckler Mattingly on March 15, 1933. She married Robert D. “Bob” Hess on December 29, 1951 in Lacon. He preceded her in death on October 8, 1999 in Peoria. She is survived by her five children;Cindy (Dale) Schuman of Colorado Springs, CO, Leia (Roger) Ogburn of Washington, Mark (Leigh) Hess of Washington, Jodi (Jay) Hobbs of Gig Harbor, WA, Jenny (Jon) Ramirez of Colleyville, TX, seven grandchildren;Joshua Schuman, Matthew Hess, Lindsay (Brad) Schuman Sloan, Zackary Hess, Maya Ramirez, Lucas Ramirez, Hunter Hobbs, and her three great-grandsons;Nathan Schuman, Mason Hess and Payton Hess. She is also survived by her siblings, Leon (Jean) Mattingly of Henry, Sister Cecilia Mattingly of Peoria, Mary (Lloyd) Russell of Henry, and Jim (Mary Jane) Mattingly of Lacon.\\n\\nPat is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bob Hess, and her siblings;Hubert Mattingly II, Elizabeth Mattingly, Doris and Dorothy Mattingly who were twins, Agnes Laible Boers, Angela Hank, Susan Mooberry, Virginia Lopeman, Hubert Mattingly III, &Polly McAllister.\\n\\nShe spent one year of high school at the Immaculate Conception Aspirant School in Peoria, IL. She graduated from Sparland High School as valedictorian of her class of one student in 1951. After high school, she worked briefly as a secretary for General Motors in Peoria, IL. In 1966, Pat &Bob &their children moved from Henry to Hanna City, IL.\\n\\nPat joined Al-Anon Family Groups in November 1975. This led to a new career as a Certified Alcohol &Drug Abuse Counselor. She worked as a consultant at the Proctor Hospital Chemical Dependency Center in Peoria, IL, from 1979-1989, as well as at Ripper &Associates in 1995-1996. At Proctor she was responsible for the development, coordination, and implementation of the Center’s Family Program and Family After-Care services. She provided both group and individual counseling services to those who had family members admitted into the Chemical Dependency Center. She was also honored by being invited to be the co-presenter for the Illinois Central College Annual Women’s Chautauqua one October in the 1980s with the topic being “Loving Others Without Losing Yourself”.\\n\\nThere will be a Memorial Mass on Saturday September 14, 2013 at 10 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Washington. Father Steve Willard will officiate. There will be a visitation from 4-7 PM on Friday September 13, 2013 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington and one half hour prior to the service at the church. There will be recitation of the Rosary on Friday at 6:45 PM. Cremation rites have been accorded. Entombment of the urn will take place at Swan Lake Memory Gardens Mausoleum.\\n\\nThe family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to all the staff at Country Comfort Retirement Home in Henry and Vitas Innovative Hospice Care in Peoria.\\n
