Miles Phillips;Canton - Walter Miles Phillips Jr., 87, of Canton died at 8:40;a.m. on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at Graham Hospital in;Canton.;He was born February 5, 1926 in rural Schuyler County to Walter;M. and Lena (Juett) Phillips Sr. He married Jean (Morris);Phillips on November 29, 1947 in Rushville. She survives.;Also surviving are seven children, Phyllis Fulton of Canton;Jerry (Rose) Phillips of New Athens, Gary (Dianne) Phillips of;Virden, Ron (Chris) Phillips of Lewistown, Linda (the late Tom);Reid of Canton, Lori Phillips of Canton, and Randy (Heather);Phillips of Canton, one brother, Robert (Shirley) Phillips of;Rushville, one sister, Eloise Heitz of Cuba, eleven grandchildren;and thirteen great-grandchildren.;He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Nancy;Carrison, one brother, Bernard Phillips, two sisters, Barbara;Leverton and Marjorie Phillips, and one granddaughter, Angela;Fulton.;Miles was a veteran of the United States Army, serving his;country during World War II. He was a farmer and a coal;miner, working at the Solar, Buckheart, and Industry mines, before;retiring in 1991. He was a member of the Ipava American;Legion, the Maples Mills United Methodist Church, and a 70-year;member of the United Mine Workers.;Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, February;2, 2014 at the Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton, with Rev. Jerry;Sawyer officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on;Saturday evening at the funeral home.
