PEKIN ~ Clara Eleanor Cowser, 95, of Pekin, passed away at 11:48 p.m. Thursday, April 24, 2014 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.;She was born August 28, 1918 in Martinsville to Jerome and Ada (Ulrey) McCrory. After meeting Earl F. Dilbeck of Danville, Arkansas, in Bloomington, they were united in marriage on March 16, 1946. He died on June 2, 1976. She subsequently married Dillard J. Cowser of Pekin, which was highlighted by annual trips to South Padre Island, Texas and frequent excursions to the former Hub Ballroom in Edelstein until his passing in 1987.;Surviving are one son, Thomas Dilbeck of Pekin, who was also her caregiver and two step-sons, Roland and Warren Cowser.;A 1940 graduate of Illinois State University, Eleanor taught bookkeeping and shorthand at the high school level for six years.;Eleanor volunteered with Pekin Hospital for over four decades and participated in Pekin Women’s Club activities and was a faithful member of Grace United Methodist Church in Pekin, which kept her cheerful and proud.;Her greatest devotion was to Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, of which she was a member for over 55 years. Her involvement with her fellow sisters brought her untold joy.;Her graveside funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin. The Rev. Gary L. Ford will officiate. There will be no visitation.
