NFL stops using pink penalty flags after week five confusion

October 8, 2013 Updated Oct 8, 2013 at 4:25 PM CDT

Pink becomes one of every NFL team's colors every October, but the prevalence of pink has created a problem during week five.

Officials used pink penalty flags during those games and there were so many pink shoes, wristbands and goal post pads that the flags were hard to spot.

The league has since made it clear to USA Today that the week five problem will not be repeated in week six when the usual yellow penalty flags will be back.

However, other parts of the league's breast cancer awareness initiative, which includes a variety of equipment and apparel, will remain in place through week seven.
