WASHINGTON, Ill. -- The Washington Panthers reached the state playoff 5A semifinals for the first time in 28 years with a 41-7 win over Normal U. High on Saturday.
Washington running back Casey Danley rushed for 243 yards and 3 TD's and now has gained a school record 1,977 career rushing yards. Danley has also scored 27 TD's this season, also a Washington record.
The unbeaten Panthers (12-0) will now go on the road to play Springfield Sacred Heart Griffin (12-0) next Saturday for a berth in the state finals.
Other area quarterfinal results saw Farmington (10-2) eliminated from the playoffs by defending 2A state champ Mercer County, 41-0, while unbeaten Tri Valley (12-0) beat Casey-Westfield, 48-27, in the 1A quarterfinals.
