After a 13–4 loss to Minnesota. Illinois was eliminated from the Big 10 Tournament today. NCAA Tournament hopes still very much alive. The Fighting Illini's middle infielders both come from Central Illinois.
Josh Parr is only a freshman, But the IVC grad has already cracked the Illinois starting lineup.
Illinois freshman second baseman Josh Parr said, "I just came in and wanted to work my hardest and try to contribute to the team as best I could."
Illinois baseball coach Dan Hartleb said, "Josh has done a good job for us. He's been very consistent and done a good job defensively and been able to move runners. He's hitting well for us."
The Illini upper classman including Limestone Grad Brandon Wikoff have been a big help to Parr.
Illinois junior shortstop Brandon Wikoff said, "It's always good to be able to help younger players. You push them in the off season, fall's really where you grow as a player. You could see Josh really came along. He's came along well probably better than I did as a freshman."
All season the Illinois have counted on the Central Illinois connection.
Parr said, "He's the guy I want playing to my right cause there are some balls I know I can't get to up the middle but he ends up cutting me and I'm like how'd you get that."
Wikoff said, "It's always nice to get another player from your area. You can go back on memories but It's been nice to work with him. He's good at second base and I think we have worked really well together."
Hartleb said, "Those guys have really been productive and good players and part of the reason why we've been very successful."
