The Notre Dame Girls Soccer team is making their first trip to State since 2006.
Now that the Irish have accomplished one goal they've set a new one.
After three straight super-sectional losses the Notre Dame Soccer team is headed to State accomplishing a goal they set at the start of the season.
Notre Dame Senior Casey O'Brien said, "I know the seniors and my goal was to finally win one because we lost every other time and it just feels great being able to accomplish that goal. Getting where we wanted and we're playing as a team like we want."
With their Mission Accomplished, it's time to start a new one.
Notre Dame coach Jason Whalen said, "I'm going to change their goal for them. Now it's to win state. We are happy to get there but we won't be satisfied if we go there and have 2 losses"
Notre Dame Senior Goal Keeper Shannon Coughlon said, "Yeah, We're definitely changing our goals now. We made it here and only one Notre Dame girls team has done this before and they came away with 4th place. Our goal is to win state and get past that accomplishment that they set."
There's a long line of history when it comes to soccer at Notre Dame, and with a win this weekend in Naperville.
The 2010 Irish will become the best girls team ever at the school.
Coughlon said, "It's our opportunity to make our name for future teams that remember us and remember the 2010 team who won state or got farther than any other team had."
Whalen said, "We wouldn't be where we are without the girls from '96, '95, '97 or even '03. We learned from them and we build on and play for not only ourselves but for the tradition of the program."
