Galesburg, IL-- The Galesburg Swim girls swim team wants to go from being forgotten by the local paper to hard to forget. Now the Silver Streaks need your help to become popular.
The Galesburg register mail didn't include the six time defending conference champs in their preview of fall sports.
Galesburg Senior Swimmer Michelle Williams said, "They skipped us, they had the cheerleaders and everybody else but no swimmers. We weren't in there."
Now the Galesburg girls swim team is using that lapse to gain national attention. The team made a video showing why they need sports marketing company fathead to help increase the popularity of their team. Now they're one of five national finalists hoping to have themselves and their team immortalized as a life size decal.
Galesburg Senior Swimmer Lilly Pogue said, "Just looking on my wall in about a month and seeing a huge fathead of me, a life size picture. It's going to be kind of weird but it will be cool. We had a lot of people say your not going to get top five, it's nation wide, it's a huge thing. Everybody's going to be doing it and then we made it. We were screaming, we were jumping up and down when we found out."
Voting ends November 5th, one day before the presidential election and the girls are in full campaign mode. Even setting up a computer at their meets so their opponents can vote for them.
Williams said, "A lot of swimmers find that they have the same problem. Swimming isn't very recognized so they're trying to help us out."
