The Cardinals Caravan rolled in East Peoria Sunday night at the Embassy Suites hotel.

Third baseman David Freese joined outfielder Jon Jay, infielder Pete Kozma and former Redbirds Rick Horton, John Mabry, Alan Benes and Cal Edlred.

Freese is hoping to rebound this season after surgery on both ankles forced him to miss the entire second half last year. He says he thinks he'll be ready to go on opening day.

"I want to be out there the first game of spring training and go from there," said Freese, who hit .296 with 4 homers and 36 RBI in 70 games last year.

"Obviously I won't be playing everyday throughout the spring, but Mo (Cards GM John Mozeliak) has said we're looking at the first day of the season is our shot. Whatever comes before that great but I plan on being out there opening day."

Cardsinals pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report to spring training in Jupiter, Florida, on February 13. Position players report February 18.
