They were revved up on the quad at Bradley University Thursday. This weekend in Joliet driver Josh Wise will try to qualify for his first Sprint Cup race in a Ford Fusion plastered with the BU logo.

A replica of the car was on display on campus Thursday. Team owner Larry Gunselman got the idea from his business manager, Suzanne Richey.

"She's a graduate of Bradley University," explained Gunselman. "We were going to be in the area for the Chicago race so we put this program together. We had the inventory available on the side of the car so we decided to donate it to the university and their sports communications program."

The arrangement means Bradley 8 sports communications majors will join Gunselman's Max Q Motorsports team for the weekend as part of a mini-internship. Their duties will introduce them to life in the fast lane of professional sports communications.

"We'll be doing anything from writing press releases to building team bios for their website," said Alan Fuehring, one of the students selected to work the event.

This weekend is a feeling out process. They're going to show us around the track and get us adapted to the NASCAR lifestyle."

Bradley student Katie Casey is looking forward to building relationships that could help her after she graduates.

"I think it's a great networking device. We get to meet a lot of people. Another student and I have actually gotten to write a press release, so its good writing experience. I think overall it will just be a good experience about what its like to be in NASCAR," said Casey.

And if Wise manages to qualify the car for Sunday's race it will also be good exposure for Bradley.

"An average NASCAR race draws between 6 and 7 million viewers," said Bobby Parker, Bradley's Associate Athletic Director for Communications. "If you can get that car in the race and get it on camera and have the announcers talking about the Bradley car its tremendous exposure."

Qualifying starts at 12:30 Saturday and can be sen on the Speed Channel. The race is Sunday at 1 pm on ESPN.
