PEORIA, Ill. -- What used to be known as O'Brien Field, and more recently Chiefs Stadium, will now be called Dozer Park.
Caterpillar paid $2 million for the naming rights to the ballpark but finding the right name wasn't so easy.
"You could have everything from Big Yellow Stadium to Tractor Park," said Caterpillar spokesman Rusty Dunn. "Holt and Best Stadium was one of the suggestions, they're the founders of Caterpillar."
Ultimately, they settled on Dozer Park. Its simple and its Cat.
"I love the new name. It says Caterpillar," said Peoria Chiefs President Rocky Vonachen. "Caterpillar got its start building the bulldozer so it really ties in well to their history."
But what do the fans think?
"They could have called it Caterpillar Field or something like that but I think Dozer Park is a great name for it," said Peoria resident Scott Hogan.
"With this being a Caterpillar community and the dozer being one of the products we manufacture, it has a nice little ring to it," said Jeremy Dennis.
Sometime next month new signage will be placed at the ballpark as part of what will be a renaming ceremony. Eventually there might even be Caterpillar equipment on display for fans to look at and learn about.
"I think there's an opportunity there for folks to learn a little bit about Caterpillar and for kids to have a close up look at a pretty neat machine," Dunn said.
