After more than 30 years of service, it appears Police Chief Steve Maurer will be stepping down after his second arrest in the last year.
Chillicothe's Mayor Troy Childer's says Maurer told him he plans to resign at Monday night's council meeting. Maurer was arrested Tuesday and booked for driving under the influence and placed on paid administrative leave.
In September he was arrested on charges of domestic battery and criminal trespass to land. Those charges were later dropped. Mayor Childers says Maurer is good guy and police officer, he is just going through a tough time. He says the city will take its time replacing him and he is not sure if they will promote from within or hire from the outside.
That meeting is scheduled for tomorrow at 7.
