CREVE COEUR--Weeks after being put on administrative leave, Creve Coeur School District 76 Superintendent Jeanne Davis was back on the job Tuesday.
In a surprise move the school board rescinded its earlier decision.
"It's gratifying, I've received a tremendous amount of support from this community and from the teachers that I serve and staff and we're gonna continue to do good work," Davis said.
In a special meeting Monday night District 76 school board voted to rescind an earlier decision which put Davis on leave even though she is in the final months of a three year contract.
Three recently elected school board members including Judy Strong were among those who voted four to three to bring Davis back to work.
"The new board feels that we are setting what's right, fair and just not only for Ms. Davis but for the community and for the school district," Strong said.
District 76 Grants Director Kathy Radovich is among those who've supported the superintendent. She says Davis was responsible for helping the district get more than a million dollars in grants this school year. Radovich says District 76 has a problem with too high of a turnover for administrators.
"That was one of the reasons that the teachers really did back the new board members for change so that the district can get on the right track," said Radovich.
Two other school board members who voted in March to put Davis on leave, failed to get re-elected in April.
