LEWISTOWN, Ill. -- A local museum searching for our past, is looking to its future.
On Sunday, the Dickson Mounds State Museum unveiled plans for future expansion.
New exhibits will include Native American history, American Settlement history and a 3D rendering of the Dickson Mounds Cemetery.
A display called the "Thompson Lake Gallery" will focus on the restoration efforts being done on the land surrounding the museum.
"At the end of the day we think we have a set of exhibits that will tell the whole human story," said Director Michael Wiant, "From native people who lived here for 12,000 years to the arrival of our forbearer and also one that looks at the land. How it has been transformed by modern society and what some of the merits are to make sure that some parts of it at least are left in a more pristine condition."
Officials hope to complete the new exhibits by September 14, 2014 to commemorate the museum's 20th anniversary.
