Peoria County authorities are bringing in additional help in the search for a 73-year-old Alzheimer's patient who went missing early Sunday evening.

Authorities said John Garrett was reported missing around 5 p.m.

He is described as a white male, 5'7", 165 lbs. He was last seen wearing black corduroy pants and a gray sweater. Family members said he is likely not wearing a coat, adding they are worried for his safety in these cold temperatures.

County authorities issued an alert to residents in the 5800 block of North Koerner Road. That's on Peoria's north end, near The Shoppes at Grand Prairie.

Several area agencies are still searching the area, including Peoria police, sheriff's deputies on horseback, and family members. K-9 units are joining the search Monday afternoon.
