PEORIA, Ill. -- April is Child Abuse Awareness Month and one place where children can feel safe is the Crittenton Crisis Nursery.

The 24-hour, 7-day-a-week nursery is located in Peoria but serves the tri-county area. Parents can drop of their child at this safe haven for any reason.

This month, WEEK is helping collect items to refill the shelves of the crisis nursery.

Schnuck's stores in Peoria and Pekin are drop off locations, and the stores are making it easy for you to purchase the much needed nursery items.

"We have a table set up with a sign on it an I think it is just easy they see the sign and what it says and they can just pick up the bag," said Jannice Miller, Customer Service Manager. "It is easy to shop. They don't have to look for something. They can just pick it up, go through the lane, pay for it with their groceries and drop it off."

In the first three days of our Fill the Crib campaign, Schnuck's sold 50 bags.

Staff from the Crisis Nursery came by this week to pick up the items and is already putting them to use.

You can help too by going to Schnuck's or any of our drop off locations and donating new baby items.
