PEORIA HEIGHTS, Ill -- Fire crews in Peoria Heights are preparing for the worst, but hoping for the best.
Fire Chief Greg Walters says about 200 people are affected by river flooding along Galena Road.
He says if a fire were to occur in that area, first responders would have very limited access. His department has done some pre-planning over the past few days, going over different worst-case scenarios.
The Chief, however, is concerned that more problems could arise when people return to their homes and businesses and turn everything back on.
"If it hasn't been checked by a professional, an electrician, a plumber, or whatever it could ignite simply because of the sparks and stuff if they haven't had that done correctly and then for the plumbing that would be more for the gas," said Chief Walters.
Walters says the fire department will work with emergency crews, residents and business owners when the waters recede.
