PEORIA HEIGHTS, Ill. -- Friends of Drew Bannister, one of three local men killed last week in a Florida car crash, are cutting hair in his memory.

Bannister was known for his long hair, and while friends said haircuts were a rarity, a cut-a-thon and bake sale were held Monday in his honor.

The staff at The Hair House in Peoria Heights donated all the proceeds to the Bannister family for funeral arrangements.

Monday's efforts raised more than $1,800.

The ladies at the Hair House are hoping to collect $5,000 and will continue collecting donations and selling bake goods during business hours on Tuesday.
