NORMAL, Ill -- Believe it or not, this hamburger is 16 years old.

Even worse, its owner said no preservatives have been added to it since it was purchased from a fast food restaurant in 1996.

The Public Relations Student Society of America team at Illinois State University is using the burger as a prop.

It's all part of a national competition to raise the awareness for childhood obesity.

"We thought it would be a good way to bring people in and show bad fats and good fats," said the team's Account Executive Jessica Funcannon. "Fast food is not exactly the best thing for you, so we thought it would be a good attention grabber, then while people are here we can talk to them about staying healthy and what they can do to be fit."

Funcannon said 1 in 3 American children is obese and will likely face obesity as an adult.

If the team wins, they will earn a grant for the ISU chapter.
