The scorching temperatures may have contributed to the death of a local factory worker in Bartonville.

Bartonville Police Chief Brian Fengel says the Police Department responded to a call of cardiac arrest around 10 Wednesday morning at Keystone Steel.

According to Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll, someone found 40-year-old John Decanter of Manito collapsed in a shower room at the plant.

He had gone into work at 10:30 Tuesday night and was found around 10:30 Wednesday morning after working about 12 hours in the steel mill.

"We got there with Bartonville Fire Department and AMT, Keystone security had started CPR before we got there, and then the male individual was taken to a local hospital," said Chief Brian Fengel of the Bartonville Police Department.

Decanter was pronounced dead at 10:53 Wednesday morning at OSF Saint Francis in Peoria.

Ingersoll says an autopsy will performed Thursday afternoon.

Keystone has cooling centers in place and says workers are provided with air conditioned breaks, water and Gatorade.
