PEORIA, Ill. -- Outgoing Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood is hoping to spend more time in Peoria in the coming months.

This as he retires from his Presidential Cabinet position.

LaHood was the keynote speaker Thursday at the Salvation Army's community luncheon.

He said that Presidential Nominee, Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx, is currently in D.C. learning more about the position.

A role and opportunity that LaHood said he is appreciative of.

"I really think this was a great opportunity. I'm really grateful to the president for this opportunity. But I am looking forward to a more leisurely pace and maybe doing something else," said Secretary of Transportation, Ray LaHood.

LaHood said a senate committee chairman told him that a confirmation hearing for Foxx's nomination could take place by mid June.
