Peoria School District 150 will receive more than $17 million to build an addition to the Lincoln Middle School.

The grant will also pay for some reconstruction of Peoria High School.

The money however, is not coming from the state's general fund...but the Capital Construction budget.

The Peoria school money is part of a total of $270 million released statewide to eighteen school districts.

Pat Quinn was at a Chicago-area school for the announcement.

"If you don't have sound buildings, it's more difficult to learn,"

The governor's office says that the money will help create 37,000 construction jobs statewide, including 1,000 in Chicago.

The projects announced today had to be certified by the Illinois State Board of Education and the Illinois Capital Development Board.
