This is one of those not-so-great moments in sports.

Soccer team Real Madrid ended an 18 year wait to win back the Copa del Rey trophy - only to drop the cup on Thursday.

Hours after beating arch rival Barcelona in the domestic cup final in
Valencia, Madrid defender Sergio Ramos let the silverware slip from his grasp during their victory celebration.

As he balanced the giant piece of silverware on his head, he lost his grip and accidentally dropped the cup beneath the wheels of the bus and crushing the trophy.

Emergency services picked up the broken pieces of the cup and returned them to the team bus.

Ramos later told the Telemadrid TV station: "The cup is all right." El Mundo newspaper reported that the cup had been smashed into 10 different pieces. But, the mishap failed to derail Madrid's celebrations - although the trophy did not reappear after the fall.
