Area residents remember Holocaust victims

PEORIA, Ill --The Jewish Federation of Peoria held a memorial Thursday to remember the those who lost their lives during the Holocaust.

The Holocaust Memorial at the Shoppes at Grand Prairie is a dedication to the six million Jews and five million enemies of the Nazi state that were murdered.

Members of the Federation read the names of those who perished in hopes of teaching the consequences of intolerance, prejudice and hatred.

Steven Shaffer Vice President of the Jewish Federation said, "So that it doesn't happen again, so that we understand and identify when this kind of hatred exist so that we can combat it. So that we are aware of it, that we work actively to make sure it doesn't happen again."
