A local radio personality is willing to get in over his head to help the kids of St. Jude.

Dr. Chris Michaels from The New 104.9 The Wolf is diving for pennies each day from 6 am to 6 pm in the parking lot of The Great Escape in Peoria.

Michael is hoping his listeners will throw their spare pennies into the pool so that he can collect them for St. Jude. The goal is a million pennies, which equals $10,000.

"We had a couple of girls yesterday and then again today drop off 5,000 pennies," said Michaels, who was shivering in the cold water but also sun-burned.

"They threw all 5,000 into the pool to make sure that picked up all 5,000 pennies. So that's 10,000 from them. And then we actually have some money. We have some checks, we have some paper money. We have raffle tickets that people can buy for $10 because we have some great raffle prizes as well. We'll certainly take any change but we love paper money and checks."

Michaels will be back in the pool again Friday and Saturday.

The fundraiser concludes Saturday with The Pig Out In the Parking Lot event from 4-9 pm. There will be $10 Hickory River Smokehouse plates sold with all of the proceeds going to St. Jude.

There will also be live music featuring The Soggy Bottom Blues Band and Up Front.
