The political season is off and running nationally and locally.

A Peoria County Board member has announced his candidacy for the Illinois State Senate.

Allen Mayer is a Democrat...a former counsel to the Illinois State Comptroller...and a 2-term incumbent on the Peoria County Board.

Mayer today said solving budget problems would likely be job one in Springfield.

And he said as a Peoria County board member...he has experience in fixing them.

"Ten years ago really was as big a mess as DC or Springfield is now. We've turned it around so that our bond ratings are going up when theirs are going down. I think that says something about the priorities and effectiveness of leadership that I've had on this board," Allen Mayer, (D) Candidate for 46th District State.

Mayer is seeking the 46th District State Senate seat currently held by Dave Koehler.

Koehler is running for Congress in the 17th Congressional District.
