PEORIA, Ill. -- Forecasters say it could be weeks before we see much relief from the flooding that is capturing attention from national media as well.
NBC news crews are in Peoria tracking events as communities attempt to stay dry.
NBC correspondent Kevin Tibbles reported on flooding for the "Today Show" from the riverfront Tuesday morning.
He says people in the Midwest are very skillful at handling flooding.
"There's so much farmland that can suck up a lot of that water, but as we see every once in a while like here in Peoria, or you see in Fargo the folks have to do some sandbagging," Tibbles said.
Meanwhile, at the RiverPlex flood waters poured into the basement causing problems for swimming pool pumps. As a result RiverPlex officials have closed swimming at the "leisure" side and splash area of the pool.
