More than a year after he was first recommended to the federal bench, James Shadid was sworn in as a US District Judge for the central district Wednesday. Shadid is a former Peoria County Circuit Judge.

Senator Dick Durbin, who recommended Shadid to President Obama for a seat, attended the ceremony along with Shadid's family, friends and other federal judges.

"Humbling, that's why I am humbled, the support, the friendship, the family. It's just a wonderful feeling. You know, I never thought past the next day, just thought of doing whatever job I had, to go to that and do it as best as I could, and things would take care of themselves." said US District Judge Hon. James Shadid.

Shadid received unanimous confirmation by the Senate. He replaces the retiring Judge Michael Mihm on the bench.
