PEORIA, Ill. -- Several hundred senior citizens did not have to worry about cooking on New Year's Day.

A group at Bethel United Methodist Church in Peoria did all the work for them.

Church members and other volunteers cooked and delivered 300 turkey dinners to seniors in Peoria. One organizer said it is a labor of love.

"If we live long enough we're gonna be seniors," said Edward Funchess. "As I visited different places and nursing homes some people don't have anybody to do anything for them. It's very important that we take care of our seniors."

Several other local churches also participated in the event.
