State Treasurer elect Dan Rutherford says he will close six satellite offices in the treasury department after he takes over next week
That's one of several changes the new treasurer will make to cut spending.
Rutherford and State comptroller elect Judy Baar Topinka say they will consolidate the two departments to try and save the state 12 million dollars.
He says the process requires a constitutional amendment that would go before voters if it is approved by both houses of the legislature.

"We're talking about 3-400 employees between the two offices. That's a lot of people but it's not a large agency compared to many of the other state agencies. So the savings comes from in part staffing but more significantly cash management," he said.
