NORMAL, Ill. -- Town Officials unveiled six new electric fleet vehicles Tuesday.

The Mitsubishi 'I's are being leased for one year, after which each vehicle will be purchased and owned by the Town of Normal.

Mayor Koos says the vehicles are a continuation of their commitment to the environment and E-V town.

"Our community is the right size for these vehicles. Most car trips are five miles or less in this community," says Mayor Koos. "These cars have a range of about 90 miles, and probably a little bit lower in cold weather. Which is part of the process of taking these vehicles out now, to show that vehicles are viable in a cold mid-western winter."

Mayor Koos says the Town of Normal will continue to explore new technology and is currently waiting for an electric vehicle design with a range of 900 miles.
