PEORIA, Ill. -- The Irish flag has waved proudly from the new location of Donnelly's Irish Pub for six months.
Like many customers, the You Gotta Eat Team decided to stop in.
"That old place he was in was basically a dump and yet he filled that joint up all the time, you know," customer Dan Cain said. "Then he moved over here, you couldn't get in the darn door, the lines were all the way out there."
More space and a bar made from an old church organ box will help owner Ryan Donnelly take the family business to the next level, offering more than just traditional Irish fare.
"We have a big smoker, we're doing some smoke meats, pulled pork," Donnelly said. "We'll eventually get into some smoked sausage and brisket."
However, there was one particular item we kept hearing about.
"I'm partial to the tenderloin," customer Jack Dougherty said. "You can't get a tenderloin in town like you can get at Donnelly's."
"We're famous for our tenderloin we make fresh everyday," Donnelly said.
It is so popular, the pub ships it cross country.
That is what photographer Chad Weber ordered. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich, keeping with the old and new theme. We both got a side of hand cut french fries.
Chad had to stretch before digging in to his nearly plate-sized tenderloin.
None of that for me, but I should have put a napkin under my chin to catch the barbecue sauce that dropped on my dress.
Our bill, two entrees, one soda and one water, came to $22.77 plus tip.
Chad answered my challenge to finish his plate, but pride is his only reward.
Donnelly's Pub is located at 4501 North Rockwood Drive in Peoria.
It opens at 11 a.m. Monday through Saturday and at 4 p.m. on Sunday.
