PEORIA, Ill. -- Hidden away in Peoria's East Bluff, Mi Familia is gaining a reputation for authentic Mexican food.

"Best, most authentic Mexican food I've had around here," said Mark Hoy.

"Been down to Mexico a few times and eaten some of the truly authentic food and this is close," said another customer.

The menu at Mi Familia contains over 50 choices including some options you might not find at other places like beef tongue.

A group of CAT workers gathered for lunch ordering Burrito Suizos...I don't think they finished them all.

But what I kept hearing about were the tacos.

"For tacos, this is the best in town," said Alex Aapper. "I think it's the ingredients and the way they prepare it."

I went back and fourth several times deciding my meal.

While I thought about it, I enjoyed a basket of chips with salsa and guacamole.

And when it finally came down to it I just couldn't resist a burrito with the word super before it.

So I got my super burrito made with steak.

It came with rice and beans and I also got a Mexican soda, mango flavored.

The burrito was fresh and tasty, and the meat was particularly good.

And speaking as a man of large appetite I will tell you I came into this meal expecting to finish it, and that just didn't happen.

My bill came to $10.26 plus tip.

Mi Familia is located off Wisconsin Avenue in Peoria.

They are open from 9am to 9pm seven days a week.
