Romania has suffered through one of the coldest winters in decades and many in Romania have started to welcome spring with an age old pagan custom.

It's called the "Cukoo's Ritual".

Men wear masks depicting mythical characters originating in pre-christian traditions.

They dance and recite sentences to celebrate the arrival of spring and chase away evil.

Another seasonal ritual, buying charms to celebrate March 1st, a day that symbolizes spring and hope.

If nothing else, March 1st is a good day for the mask and charm sellers.
