PRAGUE, Czech Republic -- When i was growing up, magazines like Popular Science and Mechanic's Illustrated were always predicting we'd have personal flying machines in the future.

That particular future hasn't arrived.....yet. Then again, folks are still trying.

For example, three companies in the Czech Republic have teamed up to make a flying bicycle.

For now, it's a prototype carrying a dummy and controlled by radio control.

The inventors admit they got their inspiration from Jules Verne.

The bike's four props are powered by batteries.

Right now, there's only enough juice to fly the bike for five minutes, which makes for a short commute to work.

At this point, it's a little wide for the bike lanes too, but they hope to have a person actually flying the gadget by this fall.
