NEW YORK, NY -- Runners started off last night....first the elite runners, then the amateurs, heading for the staircase that goes 86 flights up.

This was the first night-time run...changed to allow the amateurs a chance to see how fast they can go up one-thousand-576 individual steps.

They were cheered on at landings...probably by people who took the elevator up to watch.

The women's champion was Melissa Moon, of New Zealand, who said she would win when she got to the 70th floor and couldn't hear panting behind here.

The men's champion...Thomas Dold of Germany...who won a seventh straight time in 10 minutes and 28 seconds
