This is Speed-Room-Mating...
It just started in New York City, where rents are outrageous, and finding a suitable room-mate can seem impossible.
A gathering in the Big Apple was put on by Spareroom.com. A British outfit which hosts speed room-mating events in London.
The idea is simple: get enough people in a room together and eventually some one is going to another person they can live with -- at least for a while.
Some 11,000 people showed up for meetings like this in London last year, and Spareroom.com says the system is so popular that Australians arriving in England go to speed room-mate meetings before they unpack.
