SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- It's called "the Alcatraz winter swim" and it's a lot more than a quick dip in a pond.
More than two dozen hardy souls braved 49 degree waters to swim from the former prison of Alcatraz to San Francisco's Aquatic Park. This is the kind of swim prison officials said couldn't be made.
Some of the swimmers wore wet suits but one of the youngest, 16-year-old Hunter Wright, wore nothing but his Speedo.
Swimmers say they have to focus on endurance and on the changing currents of the bay. All the participants made it to shore.
