CONGHAM, England -- It was mollusk mayhem in the English village of Congham this weekend.

The staging of the 2012 Snail Racing World Championships brought out hundreds of snail fans to the grounds of the local cricket club.

The rules were the 150 contestants had to strive to speed out of a 13 inch circle in the fastest time.

As you might have suspected, there were some people who take this very seriously.

" I think what makes it so exciting is that on this day anything can happen, said event organizer Neil Riseborough. There's no nothing. There's no rules and there's no nothing and I think that's what makes it so damn exciting."

For the record, 'Racer', owned by a five year-old girl, Sue, romped away with the top prize after covering the 13 inch course in a sizzling 3:20 time.
