Well, this family could have started a new tradition with a well-used and well-aged fruitcake.
In 1941,this fruitcake was sold by a Kroger's store.
In 1971 --still un-opened--it was returned to the store...as a bit of memorabilia.
The vacuum-packed cake was found when the former store manager's belongings were being sorted.
So, now, 70-years old, the fruitcake went up for auction, for charity.
The money, $525 dollars, will go to a Cincinnati food bank.
The folks at Kroger's advise the buyer to keep the fruitcake for conversation- -not dessert.
