MONTEREY, Calif. -- Everybody at some point in their lives has wanted a sporty red convertible.
Now, a couple of folks have just that car in their garage.
And, one car is very famous.
The red Ferrari featured in the 1986 movie “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” went on the auction block in Monterey, Calif. on Saturday.
It was expected to go for as much as $1 million, but the final bid was $235,000.
One reason for the low bid: It’s not actually a Ferrari. It’s a replica called a Modena Spyder.
However, also in Monterey, Calif., a real rare 1967 Ferrari was also sold on Saturday. The Ferrari 275 GTB/4 Spider was one of only ten ever built.
In 1967, it sold for $14,500 dollars.
On Saturday, it sold for a record setting $27.5 million, proving you can’t beat the real thing.
Proceeds from the sale will go to various charities.
